We only make robust amounts of progesterone when we ovulate.

On the birth control pill? You are NOT ovulating, so you are NOT making progesterone. ⁣⠀⁣⠀

Irregular periods? You are NOT ovulating regularly, so you are NOT making optimal levels of progesterone.⁣⠀

Just came off the pill? It may take a few cycles or more to ovulate, so you are probably NOT making progesterone.⁣⠀

Just had a baby? Yep, your progesterone just took a major nosedive. ⁣⠀

In your late 30s? You’re probably having a few anovulatory cycles (cycles without ovulation) per year, so you are likely NOT making optimal levels of progesterone.⁣⠀

In menopause? Nope, you’re NOT ovulating at all, so you are NOT making progesterone.⁣⁣⠀

Progesterone is one of my favorite hormones you guys (yes, I have a favorite)! ⁣⠀

It supports the health of……⁣⠀

  • Your breasts ⁣⠀
  • Your heart and blood vessels ⁣⠀
  • Your bones ⁣⠀
  • Your brain and nervous system⁣⠀
  • Your skin⁣⠀
  • And so much more! ⁣⠀

⁣⠀

Progesterone plays a vital role in mood regulation, eases anxiety, facilitates memory, promotes healthy sleep, and promotes relaxation. It’s a pretty awesome hormone.⁣⠀⁣⠀

One thing to note ~  if you are on the birth control pill or you are peri/menopausal and you are taking Provera or Prempro hormone replacement therapy, that is NOT progesterone. That is progestin, which is totally different from progesterone.

Progestin is a synthetic chemical that DOES NOT confer the same benefits to your body that progesterone does. (Trust me, even doctors confuse these two). ⁣⠀

It’s important to note that when one hormone is out of balance, there are almost always other hormone imbalances at play in the body, so it’s best to look at all of your other hormones too.⁣⠀

Download the Hormone Imbalance Workbook and walk through the hormone assessments to see if you suffer from low progesterone symptoms.
