When I first read this quote, it had a profound effect on me. I had never really thought about my body in that way.
I, like so many of you, took my body for granted for many years, especially in my teens and early twenties. I’d wake up each day assuming that no matter how I treated my body, she’d always pull through.
Sickness in the form of chronic disease, cancer, heart disease, diabetes or autoimmune disease happens to other people, not to me. Have you had that thought too??
We just don’t think about the fact that our daily food and lifestyle choices affect the health of our cells deeply, and that those choices can change the trajectory of our health over time.
Just think about how awful it feels to have the flu, a stomach virus or a head cold. We often suffer for just a week or two and then it’s back to business as usual. Our trusty body pulls through.
But what IF she didn’t.
What IF she surrendered after years of poor choices, neglect or outright abuse.
The choices we make matter.
Each and every food and lifestyle choice we make tells each and every cell of our body how to behave. And the modern American way of living where we…..
- Rush and we race 24/7,
- Eat nutrient-devoid food that is heavily processed and chemical laden
- Cut into our sleep
- Sit at a desk or in a car for hours on end
- Expose ourselves to toxins in our food, environment and personal care products; and
- Self medicate with stimulants to keep us going during the day and depressants to help us wind down at night
~ THESE ARE THE EVERYDAY CHOICES that slowly chip away at our health over time.
That’s why I think about this quote daily and I try to make choices that will support my body over the long haul. And it’s why I am passionate about educating women about the importance of caring for their precious bods.
