I have discussions with and receive messages from perimenopausal women daily who are on hormonal birth control.
Their doctors have somehow convinced them that the birth control pill is the end-all, be-all solution to manage their fluctuating hormones and irregular periods during the perimenopausal years.
And bioidentical hormones? According to many of the women I talk to and what’s being taught to many conventionally trained clinicians ~ hormone replacement should ONLY be used in specific cases and only in the short—term to treat peri and menopausal symptoms.
This approach breaks my heart. There is so much misinformation about hormones, and women are the ones left to suffer.
The birth control pill ~ increases your risk of developing blood clots, stroke, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and liver cancer.
The pill has been shown to cause: clitoral and vulvar shrinkage, pain with sex, low libido, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, migraines, irritability, moodiness, nutrient deficiencies, recurrent yeast infections, persistent HPV infections, cervical dysplasia, weight gain, insomnia, fatigue, and more.
What about individualized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) prescribed in the right amounts that is routinely monitored by a clinician who has deep expertise, experience, and training in the world of hormones?
Not only does BHRT help to resolve the most troublesome peri and menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, and fatigue, but it decreases your risk of getting age-related diseases, including osteoporosis, cognitive issues, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
BHRT helps to prevent cognitive decline, memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, bladder issues, vaginal atrophy and infections, skin issues, inflammation, sleep issues, mood issues, and so much more!
Did your doctor mention that?
We’ve got to be advocates for ourselves, and get educated about this next chapter in life. Find a clinician who studies the research and has been deeply trained in hormones. The pill is not the answer. It merely masks perimenopausal symptoms and puts you at greater risk for a whole host of not-so-great things.
