Quick Tip to Help You Get Your Greens

by | Healthy Lifestyle, Nutrition, Tiny Edits | 0 comments

I know how tough it can be to get your daily dose of greens, so I wanted to share a quick tip that I use almost every day.   Over the last couple of years, I began incorporating sprouts and microgreens into my daily routine. Some researchers tout these small, but mighty vegetables as having up to forty times higher levels of vital nutrients than their mature counterparts. YES, FORTY TIMES! WOW!

So, what are sprouts and microgreens?

They are young seedlings of edible vegetables and herbs harvested less than 14 days after germination. And because of the fact that we eat these little greens in their early phase of life, they are EASIER to digest and EASIER to assimilate into our bodies than their mature counterparts.

The health benefits of these little guys depend on the type of plant that it comes from originally. So for example, broccoli microgreens are great for the digestive system, whereas radish sprouts help with liver detoxification.

???

Taste wise, sprouts and microgreens will taste similar to the plant that they originally come from. Broccoli microgreens will still taste like broccoli but in a stronger more vegetal and condensed format.

These small, but mighty veggies contain loads of vitamins, minerals, and other phytochemicals and have been known to help with brain repair, skin repair, hormone balance, adrenal repair, and digestive assistance.

They also possess antiproliferative properties, which means that they stave off infection and stop unwanted cell growth, like cancer. THEY ARE REALLY POWERFUL!

Sprouts and microgreens can be found in the produce section of most supermarkets these days. I am not a huge broccoli fan, but I am a big fan of broccoli microgreens, and I sprinkle them on my salad, in my smoothie, on a sandwich, and in some of my soups/stews to increase the nutritional benefit of whatever it is that I am eating.

If you find the taste to be too strong, then scale back on the amount you use. Any little bit of these amazing powerhouses is going to benefit your body.
